SAVANNAH, Ga- Savannah State men's
basketball coach Horace Broadnax
announces the signing of five
scholarship student-athletes to play
basketball for the Tigers. Inking
letters-of-intent were Mark St. Fort,
Arnold Louis, Rashad Hassan, Josh
Smith and Glen Izevbigie.
St. Fort, Louis, Hassan and Smith will
all enter SSU directly from high
school while Izevbigie comes from the
junior college ranks.
Forwards St. Fort and Louis both come
from Hardee High School in Wachula,
Florida where they led their team to
three regional playoff appearances.
St. Fort (6-6, 195) averaged 21 points
a game, 15 rebounds and five blocks as
a senior. St. Fort was named the 2007
Heartland Player of the Year, 2008
FACA District Player of the Year and
played in the 2008 FACA All-Star Game.
St. Fort also made the 2007 Big Blue
Holiday, 2008 Alonso Holiday and the
2008 Jesuit Invitational
all-tournament teams.
Louis (6-7, 187) averaged 21 points a
game, 14 rebounds and two blocks as a
senior. Louis received the 2008 Hardee
High Coaches Award and was named to
the 2008 Alonso Holiday Tournament
All-Tournament Team.
Hassan (6-7, 190) played at Riverdale
High School in Riverdale, Georgia. As
a senior he averaged 22.2 points, 10.4
rebounds and 1.3 blocks while leading
Riverdale to the Elite Eight in the
state AAAA playoffs. A member of the
National Beta Club and the National
Honor Society of High School Scholars,
Hassan was named to the Southern
Cresent Newspaper First Team, Second
Team All-State AAAA, Riverdale
Offensive Player of the Year, Scholar
Athlete and played in the Southern
Cresent All-Star Game.
Smith (6-5) is a guard/forward
averaged 12 points and seven rebounds
for Johnson High School in Savannah,
Georgia in his senior year. While
helping Johnson earn a trip to the
state playoffs, Smith won all-region
honors and was a honorable mention for
the All-Greater Savannah Team.
Izevbigie (6-10, 240) comes to SSU
from Garrett Community College in
McHenry, Maryland where he averaged
10.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.4
blocks. A two-year starter at Garrett,
Izevbigi led the team in rebounding
and overall field goal percentage at
52.5 percent. Academically, the
London, England native had the highest
grade point average on the team with a
3.6 while majoring in engineering and
received the Male Academic Athlete of
the Year Award. Izevbigi earned second
team Region XX Division 1 honors
during the 2007-08 season.
